FROM THE BACK OF THE BOOK:
"This is the story of a war, a war that was fought for one of the oldest reasons: need for land. One man had too much and his neighbor had too little. One man had more cattle than he could feed: another didn't even have enough to feed his family.
Yet it might never have begun: a compromise might have been made if the woman had stayed away. For the spark that started the fight was a woman—a girl like a flame, who offered two cold old men the great illusion of eternal spring."
